Trials in modern times- & what makes them a "BAD?&q

2

Trialing new apps, or accepting them to get their trial started is a step AFTER examining their character. I have a few things that I think need to be said.

We are here to examine the possibility of adding another applicant to our roster. Do they fit in ? Do people here use third party programs without being obvious--- Is there no foul in trialing them? Remember, that they use the tag. If you want to sully and spoil the name of the guild by just being known as a bunch of cheats- that's up to the officership to decide to add them in- However, that is if they are touting the play-style with the tag going- which is detrimental to the reputation of a guild. Why add "bads" that also cheat? This is why they go through the trial and also why some people don't even get past that phase because of the outcry of how bad they truly are. They DO have a chance of being GOOD!! What is bad? Let us examine:

  • Personality.

Not every player is perfect, we understand this- we are human beings operating a machine that drives an avatar in a virtual world. We grow tired sometimes. Might have a good/bad day, there are too many factors that go into the behavior of people- and a lot of the stuff we do daily is excusable even if harmful to others- some see it as a 'hard lesson' or 'humor'. Some people don't see it that way sometimes because we all have different levels of experience, and certainly: different walks of life, and may take criticism differently than others- or a joke isn't a joke to them it may be a mean observation. Some of us have bad traits like envy, jealousy, rage, and compatibility with others. There are non-personality traits that make a player bad, too. Understand that bossing people around isn't the same as leading, too. Flexing power on people isn't seen as a desirable trait if you're not doing anything to contribute to the guild's success- or rather, you'll just make people feel bad and dislike you.

Self examination VS Arrogance and Egotism. When you've come across as pompous and over self-celebrated, there is probably something going on with the psychological nature of that person- WE ALL GO THROUGH THINGS, and there are several definitions of psychological behaviors that can be seen as negative- but, if we recognize that somebody has had a hard fall and they are set off by the impetus (what makes them tick) they represent then people soliciting a response from the person with an issue causes more of the issue... and is also a PROBLEM that the person pointing out has.
Correcting behavior when not necessary- This is called self-confidence/ esteem. IF you are one to constantly tear people down, it means you lack self-confidence and need to take away other's esteem for your own ego's sake.

Hypocrisy- As examples are being shown do not apply them to known episodes, but rather an environment full of factors that can contribute to making a positive vs. negative experience. Sometimes people are preaching about not doing what they did because they believe it is a mistake. Some people are not entirely aware of their own hypocrisy as it is a never ending judgement on oneself.

We are a team! We don't need to love each other, but we sure do need to work together to make stuff easier. Why make it harder?

  • Cheating.

People who run third party programs will be reliant on them, thus, making your brain weaker. Gina for example- is a cheat. No matter how you look at it- its a computer program automatically giving you an attention span and a command. People with good brains study the raid and are aware of emotes at any moment and understand what movements to do. They won't consider that cheating because---- THEY DO IT. Let me underscore that - even if the game company allows you to cheat, it doesn't mean its proper. And because it helps the group as a whole save time and the use of research, this is why people cannot do things like color coordinated PRECISELY. If you hear the excuse that you should always get emotes done because you have GINA, it is because that person knows the raid already and is expressing disappointment. It is obvious that people that cannot make emotes while cheating do not have what it takes to finish that raid alone. To clarify: if you are aware of what is going to happen next like choosing 1 of 5 colors to go to in 10-15 seconds, and you cannot do it- your brain should have developed a plan to get around failure instead of blaming a third party program for it. Like: Gating out if you know you're going to fail, or: understanding you need to back away from dps and observe more closely because your computer lags/ you have a slower internet connection.

What is worse cheating than just trying to win raids?

Being told by a game company a certain play-style is incorrect after telling you that it is OK to use that program with this nomination (its okay to do because we said so, but only in this very particular circumstance is it okay) Let me be clear- that it is never okay when you're running anything else besides the unmodified game. The game doesn't need modification and everything is there for you to perform as well if not better than people who run scripts (macroquest, isoboxer) or actual hard hacking programs like CHEAT ENGINE.

Harmful Hackers

Dupers/ people who make other people's path affected by their said cheating.

Those that change the status quo of normal playing, thus, making normal players look bad in comparison. (teams of more than 2 automated characters)

  • Failing Emotes/Skill Level

People that fail emotes constantly on raids are a big no-no and a huge detriment to the overall success of a guild- this delays rewards. The medium of this can be examined as we are human it is okay to err once in a blue moon- but not consistently and especially not to the rate where people can have a stabilized guess at betting on whether or not that particular person will fail it again... and again... and again...

Just because you are forgiven by some does not mean everybody feels that way. Remember, if you know you cannot do it, why waste everybody's time? Have a self reflection period to figure out why it is you're incapable of performing and do not figure its the end of your career because that's the ACTUAL WORK that needs to be done to win, (hammer that in your head- if you fail an emote it should be a great lesson to not do it again because of how mad everybody actually gets when you wipe the raid, but to save and spare everybody from wasting more time working on the BAD in the guild, they move on.) instead of automatically assuming your setup and fellow guildies will do it for you. They won't. But they will tell you to duck or move for time's sake and friendship. If the officership is aware a member has become lazy or bad, they will inform the raid not to rez you and you will continue in sit-out to prevent the emote failure from happening- and this is hyper rare.

An incompetent raider can kill a whole group of extra-prepared raiders. This is what needs to be prevented.

Grinding outside of raid isn't going to make you a better raider- but it definitely is better than avoiding playing the game.
Succeeding emotes will make you a better raider- and likable.
Having the right gear that allows you to survive makes you better- and gives the out-of-raid game a different pleasure.

Being agreeable to help the raid get done is better than silently failing. (missing emotes or blaming others for your shortcomings)

We are looking and striving for excellence when it comes to our raiders, not only merely passable.
Mediocrity has become acceptable to some, but not to most-

AGAIN! Skill level- we try to have those that are at the fringes of skill, not somebody picking up the game. If there is a ever-growing gap in the distance of your skill and another person in the guild of the same class, the problem might be an overlooking of personal skill. Or lack of care to become a 'Good one'- or lack of ability to take critique.

-SABOTAGE / BILK

Players that are from other guilds and other servers that come to visit our raids and even participate regularly might be evil enough to try and stifle raids purposefully. These are people that cause the raid to fail right before success or during any point, really. They also might 'accidently' loot everything from the chest, or 'accidently' roll on items out of a chest. These are people that are very rare, very bored, and very sad. Be aware of behavioral issues as it is one of the main factors that contributes to players being BAD.

Ask yourself this question: Will they help win the raid by showing up?

I am not going to be engaging in anything here about people using hacks/third party programs. Everyone, be aware of the risk it represents. And willingly know what you need to do to have a raid go right.

Your bard,
